That was the goal of the robotics group Project Veritas, whose members took part in the 2015 Cyber Monday protest to demand an end to the use of autonomous weapons in war.

Project Verity is an offshoot of the Project Athena, an Australian research organisation that focuses on autonomous weapons.

“Robotics is one of the areas where the US has been trying to bring in a bit more military-like capabilities,” MacGregors told Business Insights.

“We made this robotic arm to deal with a particular problem that we were faced with in Afghanistan,” Project Athena’s project manager and co-author Alex Macgregor told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“It was a bit of a shocker, actually, when we saw how this arm worked.”

Project Athena was one of several robots used in the Cyber Monday demonstrations, which involved dozens of people.

They used a variety of hardware, including drones, drones armed with lasers and lasers guns, and a laser-based machine gun.
